For adults keeping an eye on their cholesterol: what a 10-mushroom daily capsule can and cannot do
Cholibrium is a once-a-day supplement made from ten medicinal mushrooms. We looked at what is in it, what the research on mushrooms shows, and what it costs, so you can decide together with your doctor.
Why people look at a product like this
A higher number on a lipid panel is common after 40. In the US, roughly one adult in nine has high total cholesterol, according to the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics (2024).
Many people want a simple daily habit to go with their doctor's advice: changes in food, more walking, and sometimes a supplement. If that is where you are, the first step is still a conversation with your doctor. A capsule comes after that conversation, not instead of it.
What is in it
According to the maker, each daily capsule combines ten mushrooms:
- Reishi
- Lion's mane
- Cordyceps
- Shiitake
- Maitake
- Turkey tail
- Chaga
- Royal agaricus
- White button
- Black fungus
The maker's page lists the ingredients. Bring that list to your doctor or pharmacist before you start, especially if you take prescription medicine such as a statin, a blood thinner or a blood-pressure medicine.
What the research says, in plain words
Mushrooms in the diet: a 2023 review of 22 mostly small studies linked eating mushrooms with better triglyceride and hs-CRP (an inflammation marker) results. It found no clear effect on LDL, the “bad” cholesterol, and the authors call the evidence limited.Uffelman et al., Nutrients, 2023
Shiitake: a compound called eritadenine lowered cholesterol in mice. That has not been shown in people.Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine, 2013
Reishi: a Cochrane review of randomized trials found no clear benefit for cholesterol.Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2015
These studies looked at mushrooms in food, not at Cholibrium's formula. The maker's affiliate materials mention 13 peer-reviewed studies; we have not seen that list, so treat it as the maker's claim.
What it will not do
- It is not a treatment for high cholesterol or heart disease.
- It does not replace a medicine your doctor prescribed. Do not stop or change one because of anything you read here or on the maker's page.
- Any effect varies from person to person. The only way to see one is your next lab test, ideally reviewed with your doctor.
Our read: at best, a small addition to the basics that are proven, such as diet, activity and the treatment your doctor recommends. Not a shortcut around them.

- Can I take it with my cholesterol medicine?
- Ask your doctor or pharmacist first and bring the ingredient list. Do not stop or change a prescribed medicine on your own.
- How would I know if it does anything?
- Only from lab results over a few months. Feeling better is not a reliable measure of cholesterol.
- Who sells it, and who handles refunds?
- The maker sells it through ClickBank, which processes payment and refunds. We do not take orders or payments.
